Join Ruth Culham and authors Kate Messner, and Lester Laminack to discover how using fiction and nonfiction picture books is a rewarding and powerful teaching strategy to help students of all ages learn to write. As models for good writing, students use picture books, chapter books, and everyday texts to to learn specific craft techniques to create strong writing using the writing process. I am so wishing that I could see “Teaching Edge-The Writing Thief: Using Mentor Texts to Teach”. I saw Ruth speak in Syracuse at the NYS Reading Association Conference and it was awesome. She used text (fiction and non) from Gary Paulsen.
