KidLit Cares: Skype visit & signed book from Chelsea Clinton

Welcome to KidLit Cares, an online talent auction to benefit the Red Cross relief effort to help communities recover from Hurricane Harvey and related flooding. Agents, editors, authors, and illustrators have donated various services to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with donations being made directly to the Red Cross disaster relief fund. You can read more about KidLit Cares here. Now, on to the auction!

Chelsea Clinton has donated a 30-minute classroom, library, or book club Skype visit along with a signed copy of her picture book SHE PERSISTED: 13 AMERICAN WOMEN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD. The Skype visit will be scheduled at a time that is mutually convenient for Chelsea and the auction winner.

Chelsea Clinton works to drive the vision and programmatic objectives of the Clinton Foundation. As vice chair, Chelsea works alongside the Foundation’s leadership and partners to help create greater opportunities for people to build better futures for themselves, their families, and their communities. Chelsea is a tireless advocate for expanding access to early childhood education, improving the health and well-being of Americans across the country, providing the next generation of young leaders with the resources they need to turn their ideas into action, and ensuring the empowerment of girls and women is a cross-cutting priority across all of the Foundation’s programs and initiatives.

Chelsea also serves on the board of the Clinton Foundation’s affiliated Clinton Health Access Initiative – which works to expand access to lifesaving HIV/AIDS medications and services in the developing world, as well as on the board of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation – a partnership between the Clinton Foundation and American Heart Association, which works to empower kids to develop lifelong healthy habits around food and physical activity.

Chelsea currently teaches at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and previously worked at McKinsey & Company and Avenue Capital. In addition, Chelsea serves on the boards of the School of American Ballet, the Africa Center, IAC, Expedia, Clover Health, and the Weill Cornell Medical College. She is the co-chair of the Advisory Board of the Of Many Institute at NYU. Chelsea holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford, a Master of Public Health from Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health, and both a Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate in international relations from Oxford University.

Chelsea is co-author with Devi Sridhar of “Governing Global Health: Who Runs the World and Why?” which examines the role of public-private partnerships in combating the spread of infectious diseases like AIDS and reducing pervasive chronic health problems like malnutrition. Chelsea is also the author of “It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going” – a book for young readers, ages 10-14 which explores some of the biggest challenges facing our world today and shares inspiring stories of young people who are already making a difference in their own communities and around the globe by tackling them in fun and creative way – and, “She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World” – a picture book that introduces tiny feminists, mini activists, and little kids who are ready to take on the world to thirteen inspirational women who never took no for an answer, and who always, inevitably and without fail, persisted.

She lives with her husband Marc, their daughter Charlotte, and their son Aidan in New York City.

Opening bid: $100

Auction ends: Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 9pm EST.

Any bids submitted in comments after that time will be void. The winner will be the highest bid with an 8:59 time stamp on the comment. In the case of identical last-minute bids, the first one posted will be the winner. (Please note: bidding at the last second isn’t a good idea. Websites get overloaded & there’s always a chance that your bid might not post on time. So please bid your best offer with plenty of time to spare.)

If you’d like to bid on this auction, check the current high bid and place a higher bid by leaving your name and bid amount in the comments, along with some way to contact you (email, FB or Twitter…I’m not fussy.) Winners will be notified when the auction ends and should be prepared to make an online donation to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief fund in the amount of the high bid at that time.  After you’ve made your donation, you’ll forward your receipt to me, and I’ll put you in touch with the person who donated the service you won so that the two of you can work out the details about how and when. Please note that the donation for this auction will be verified. All services will be provided at the convenience of both the person making the donation and the auction winner, but this should happen within three months of the auction’s end unless something else is agreed upon by both parties.

Good luck, and thanks for bidding!

Note from Kate: Bids on this auction are being verified to ensure that they are coming from real people connected with a school, library, or book club seeking this Skype visit. Please comment in a way that allows me to contact you easily – by email or a social media account that is not locked. Bids from locked twitter accounts that do not respond to contact requests will be deleted.

  1. Note from Kate: Bids on this auction are being verified to ensure that they are coming from real people connected with a school, library, or book club seeking this Skype visit. The last two bids above are from people identified only by locked Twitter accounts & that’s not sufficient information. I’ve requested to follow your account to verify – please respond if you’d like your bid to count.
