I have a favor to ask…
We’ll be taking a family vacation soon, staying in Olympia, but also spending time in Seattle. If anyone knows the area, I’d love suggestions about specific places to go — great beaches for tide pools, hiking trails, restaurants, etc. We like to be outdoors better than indoors, and we love all kinds of food but especially Dim Sum, Thai, Italian, and big breakfasts. And ice cream. Of course.
Any thoughts?? Thanks!
Hi Kate,
I live two hours south in Portland, but I’ve spent a lot of time up in Olympia with friends. Don’t miss the downtown Farmer’s Market…and now they have a free art walk from there every saturday: http://www.ci.olympia.wa.us/cityservices/par/artresources/publicartwalkingtour.htm
For hiking, McClain Nature Park and Priest Point Park (on the bay) are nice.
Anthony’s is a fun restaurant on the Pier overlooking the bay: http://www.anthonys.com/home.html
Have fun! And of course, there’s tons to do in Seattle, but I’ll let someone else more familiar with the city chime in.
It’s not outdoors, but I highly recommend the Experience Music Project.

When are you going? We’re headed up there the first week in August.
Hey Kate,
Did you get my last email? Anyway, I’m more familiar with hiking spots and places north of Seattle, but I did live in downtown Seattle for a year. I’ll make sure some of the restaurants are still THERE first and give you some suggestions 🙂 Are you friends with ravelda on LJ? She lives in Olympia!
I don’t know how far you’re planning to travel, but almost anywhere in Olympic National Park was beautiful, and I love Mount Rainier National Park above all others. Especially Paradise . . .
Mount St. Helens is impressive too, but that’s quite a drive.
Awesome! Thank you so much for the links!
We actually leave tomorrow. Thanks for the Music Project link – we’ll definitely check it out.
Thanks, Tara! I hope we can connect this week!
We’re planning on a visit to the Hoh rain forest, and Mount Rainier is on our list, too. The kids want to see Mount St. Helens, so we’re going to try to fit that in, too.
