I Survived meets The Puppy Place in this thrilling adventure novel as Ranger — a time-traveling golden retriever — races to the rescue on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack.
Ranger travels back to 1941 Hawaii, where World War II is on everyone’s minds. That includes Ben Hansen, a young sailor stationed at Pearl Harbor, and twins Paul and Grace Yamada who are making their weekly market trip when Japanese bombs begin to fall from the sky. As the surprise attack puts all of Ranger’s new friends in danger, his search-and-rescue training kicks in to high gear. Can he help them survive against all odds?

Praise for the Ranger in Time series:
“This excellent story contains historical details, full-page illustrations, and enough action to keep even reluctant readers engaged.”
~ School Library Journal
“The third-person narration expertly balances Ranger’s thoughts between the appropriately doglike (squirrels! bacon!) and the heroic (Ranger’s drive to find and protect).”
~ Kirkus
“McMorris’s richly rendered illustrations heighten the plot’s many moments of danger and drama, and Messner (Manhunt) incorporates a wealth of historical details into her rousing adventure story. An author’s note offers additional context and detail about the challenges pioneers faced and the real-life research that went into this story.”
~ Publishers Weekly
“Readers will love following Ranger on his thrilling adventure along the Oregon Trail. What a great way to learn about history!”
~Lauren Tarshis, author of the I Survived series
